Our story

Established in 2007 by Annabel (Bel) Forbes, Bel’s Butchers are proud members of Scottish Craft Butchers, The Scotch Butcher’s Club and Quality Meat Scotland. We source our Scotch Beef PGI, Scotch Lamb PGI and Specially Selected Pork through our suppliers based in Angus and Aberdeenshire, ensuring full provenance, commitment to quality and welfare standards, and support for our local farming community.  

In 2007 Bel Forbes took over an existing butcher’s shop on the high street in Edzell, Angus.  With a background in nursing and catering Bel was not the obvious candidate for running a butcher’s business but determination and drive is key, and since 2007 Bel’s Butchers has developed into the award winning successful high street business it is today.  Bel’s focus was to develop a community retail shop that also supplied local restaurants and hotels with some of the best local produce available. Opening her second shop in Montrose in 2014, Bel and her skilled team are committed to providing excellent customer service, sourcing the best quality local produce where possible and serving the community.  Over the years Bel’s Butchers has adjusted and developed with the times, always aiming to keep up with the fast-paced changes in retail and high street shopping trends whilst maintaining its original values of quality and personal service.
